One Small Step
So, I’m about to take a great leap… okay maybe the smallest leap I can take without interfering with work, while still in the pursuit of my dream. I signed up for an evening class for Fantasy Illustration, two blocks from where I work. The class begins at 7pm on Weds, so there should be no difficulty merely walking over there after work.
I have to say I’m truly excited. This may well be the first step in pursuit of what I should have been pursuing since I strolled out of the womb. I’ve always loved drawing and about 6 years ago, I mustered up enough dough to invest in a Wacom tablet so I could take my expression to the computer for digital painting. Recently, I’ve begun to draw again… small things, mostly, but evocative in some regard. I tend to draw with a Bic® clicky black pen and improvise as I go. The things I draw are often in the realm of the surreal, grotesque, and perhaps even cartoonish, but at the same time, it’s never childish. I truly hope this course brings out some energy in me, distracts me from my everyday mundane work, and inspires me to learn more.
Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence. True friendship is a plant of slow growth, and must undergo and withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to the appellation.
